This form of art based on the Yajur-Veda medical science and medicine as well as on yoga has been transmitted from masters to disciples in an unbroken sequence through centuries and even ages to be applied in practice now in the whole Thailand. A complete Thai massage includes a combination of acupressure, of stimulating the energetical paths, as well as of stretchings similar to those of yoga. It is different from many forms of massage of western conception, for instance, in the facts that no oil is used for it, the therapist uses a mattrace on the floor directly instead of a massage table, as well as the client stays dressed in his/her clothes during it. Many think it to be realy different from other kinds of massage, calling it „yoga applied on you by somebody else“. In Thailand, it is sometimes called „yoga for lazy men“. The Thai massage is an excellent complement to any kind of physical training and excercises and is suitable to clients of various age having various physical abilities. It is suitable to those who feel stiff, full of sore, and tired of overwork or overtaxed and overstrained from sports, as well as a result of arthritis or of other deseases limiting physical movability. In such cases, the Thai massage can help to gain back one´s locomotive range lost. By stimulating the lymphatic nodes functions, this kind of massage of deep body tissues can detoxicate one´s body, increase its imunity, and by relaxing joints and ligaments and by developping their flexibility, it can prevent various deseases or injuries. The Thai massage can be also used as a therapeutic method of stimulating and developping movability range and muscular strength.
The Thai massage balances and equalizes the flux through energetic paths. In order to preserve the integrity of their energetical performance, the Thai therapists recommend to their clients not to take shower and not to eat during two hours after the massage, but to do what they feel like naturally – to have a rest, to relax, and to sleep. In Thailand, a classic massage takes an hour and a half. In many massage parlours, it is a minimum time, the clients asking often for a three hour lasting massage. Ideal one, however, is a two-hour massage – it is recommended to exhausted or put under stress clients. Under normal conditions, with a healthy client, the massage frequency is recommended once or twice a week.
